Acridone (9 (10H ) - acridone ) is structurally related to its parent body acridine and the polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon anthracene, however, has, in contrast to the latter as a central six-membered ring, a heteroaromatic 4- pyridone. The Acridonstruktur can also be derived from the quinacridone structure, by a 4- pyridone ring is removed together with an adjacent peripheral ring therefrom.
Use
Acridone derivatives can be used as a fluorescent probe in molecular biology or to measure the Lewis acidity of metal ion salts. In medicine Acridonalkaloide are useful as anticancer agent and malaria.
