Acromelanism

As Akromelanismus or Kälteschwärzung the dark color of the cooler parts of the body ( face, legs, tail) is referred to in various mammals. Kälteschwärzung occurs in several animal species, for example, pointed cats ( domestic cats ), Russians rabbit ( domestic rabbits ) or English park cattle ( Cattle ).

The term is misleading, because actually it is not a form of melanism but a partial albinism; by a heat-sensitive tyrosinase less or no pigment is formed in the warmer parts of the body. At birth akromelanistische animals are still all white, the " cold spots" are formed from later. The mutation is one of the manifestations of oculocutaneous albinism type 1
