Acton Town tube station

Acton Town is an aboveground station London Underground in the London Borough of Ealing. It is located in the Travelcard Zone 3 at the Gunnersbury Lane. Here courses of the District Line and the Piccadilly Line. In 2011, 5.46 million passengers used the station.

History

Was opened the station on 1 July 1879, the Metropolitan District Railway (MDR; predecessor company on the District line ), the distance between Turnham Green and Ealing Broadway took into operation on that day. On May 1, 1883 route towards Hounslow Town followed. Initially, the station was called Mill Hill Park. On June 23, 1903, the MDR electrified the route north of Acton Town to Park Royal & Twyford Abbey. The route to Hounslow Town was followed on 13 June 1905 that the center of London on 1 July 1905. Likewise, on 13 June 1905, the MDR took over the operation on the short branch line to the South Acton train station in operation. After a renovation, the station on March 1, 1910, its current name.

The Piccadilly Line perverted from the July 4, 1932 to South Harrow ( later up to Uxbridge ), from January 9, 1933 in conjunction with the District Line to North Fields ( March 13, 1933 to the former terminus Hounslow West). The single-track branch line to South Acton, who was most recently a short shuttle connection was shut down due to low frequentation on February 28, 1959, and removed a little later, as the side platform at Acton Town. On December 10, 1964, the District Line finished the operation on the branch line to Hounslow West and wrong since then only to Ealing Broadway.

Plant

In preparation for the handover of the Uxbridge branch of the District line route to the Piccadilly Line station in 1932 was completely rebuilt. The architect Charles Holden designed a modern station building, functionalism and art deco united. It consists of red bricks and reinforced concrete and has large clerestory. Since 1994, the building is a listed building (Grade II), together with the loading on the wing Gunnersbury Lane.

The London Transport Museum outsources its held in reserve exhibits in a museum depot with rail connection on the other side of the road. It is accessible to numerous weekends to the public.
