Adalet AÄŸaoÄŸlu

Adalet Ağaoğlu, born Sümer (* 1929 in Nallıhan in the province of Ankara) is a Turkish novelist.

Life

Fatma Inayet ( " Adalet " ) Sümer went in her birthplace Nallıhan in elementary school and attended by the family moved to middle school and high school in Ankara. In her youth she was from reading the novel " Wren " ( Çalıkuşu ) of Reşat Nuri Güntekin impressed. She studied French language and literature at the University of Ankara and took part in the literary life of the city by visiting lyric poet Yahya Kemal matinees of Beyatli, Ahmet Hamdi and Orhan Veli Tanpınar.

Adalet Sümer received in 1951 a job with the state broadcasting corporation, Ankara, a forerunner of the TRT. There she worked as a dramaturge and translator. During this period also own first literary attempts. In 1955 she married the engineer Halim Ağaoğlu, with whom she moved to the U.S. two years ( 1957-1959 ). Besides her work in broadcasting she founded in 1961 with artist friends, the first private theater " Meydan Sahnesi " in Ankara, however, was also identified with the released of their Caucasian Chalk Circle by Bertolt Brecht, with little success. When radio they did not meinungslos in the political upheavals of Turkey and was in 1969 when they recommended a Cuba report Sartre to discuss on the air, brought to justice. She gave up her post at the TRT, but was reinstated after acquittal.

In 1970, she left the radio and wrote finally lay down and die, for they toil with the publisher house Remzi was held in Istanbul, who published the book in June 1973 her first novel yourself. It was followed by four volumes of short stories and eight novels, which have won various literary awards. Established in 1975 under the title of high voltage ( Yüksek gerilim ) published stories were awarded the prestigious " Sait Faik - Prize" and her second novel, The delicate rose of my desire ( Fikrimin Ince Gülü ) the " Madarali Prize". In 1983 the author moved from Ankara to Istanbul.

Ağaoğlu plays in the Turkish literary scene today a confident and militant role.

Ağaoğlu received in 1998 per an honorary doctorate of Anadolu Üniversitesi and the Ohio State University, a conference on their honor " Modernism and Social Change: In Honor of Adalet Ağaoğlu " held.
