Adam Christian Thebesius

Adam Christian Thebesius ( born January 12, 1686 in Sand Willewalde at Guhrau, Duchy of Glogau, and today Wąsosz - Lechitow, † November 10, 1732 in Hirschberg ) was a German anatomist.

Life

Thebesius was born 1686 in Sand Willewalde. He studied medicine at the universities of Jena, Leipzig and Leiden, where he in 1708 received his doctorate in medicine. From 1709 he practiced in Hirschberg. As of 1715, he was city physician in Hirschberg and medical advisor in Bad Warmbrunn.

Thebesius became known for his research into the coronary circulation. These he summarized ( the circulation of blood in the heart over) in his thesis " De circulo sang unis in corde ". In it he described that the coronary artery vein leading directly into the ventricles. These venae cordis minimae be called after him as " Thebesius veins " and the drainage path as " Thebesisches system ". The foramina venarum minimarum are also known under the name " Thebesische foramina " (or according to Raymond Vieussens Vieussens foramina ), and the flap of the coronary sinus as " Thebesische flap ".
