Adam Patel, Baron Patel of Blackburn

Adam Hafejee Patel, Baron Patel of Blackburn, of Langho in the County of Lancashire ( born June 7, 1940 in Gujarat, India) is a native of India of British business leaders and Labour Party politician, who as a life peer since 2000 Member of the House of Lords.

Life

After visiting the Pioneer High School in Bharuch he studied economics at the Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda and graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce ( B.Comm. ). After Patel, who was in 1966 a member of the Labour Party worked as a bookkeeper at Ivan Jacques Chartered Accountants in Blackburn and engaged in this period 1966-1967 as Chairman of the Commonwealth Friendship Committee in Blackburn and the district Blackburn. In 1967 he began working as an accountant at S & RD Thornton Chartered Accountants in Preston, where he worked until 1974. At the same time he was one of the founders in 1967 of the Indian Workers Association 1967-1974 and was also the Secretary General.

After he was temporarily head of the internal accounting of the resident in Lusaka company Zamtan, he was 1977-1997 board member of the Comet Cash and Carry Co Ltd. The mid-1980s began Patel, who is since 1977 President of the Indian Workers Association, his political career in local politics and advocated for the Labour Party 1984-1995 the constituency of Petty Sessions in magistrate of Blackburn. In 1987, he was among the founders of the Council for Mosques in Lancashire and was its president until 1995. Patel was raised by a Letters Patent dated 14 February 2000 as a life peer with the title Baron Patel of Blackburn, of Langho in the County of Lancashire in the peerage. Shortly thereafter, on February 16, 2000, his introduction ( Introduction) as a member of the House of Lords. In the upper house he belongs to the Group of the Labour Party.

In 2001, Baron Patel of Blackburn, the Office of the Chairman of the British Hajj Delegation of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and has held this position until 2010.
