Adam Szymczyk

Adam Szymczyk (* 1970 in Piotrków ) is a Polish art critic and curator. He is director of the Kunsthalle Basel and artistic director of Documenta 14 in 2017 in Kassel.

Life

Szymczyk studied art history at the University of Warsaw. The mid-1990s, he took part in Amsterdam at the curator of the art training center De Appel. In 1997 he co-founded the fundacja Galerii Foksal ( Foksal Gallery Foundation ) in Warsaw, where he worked as a curator until 2003. Since 2003 he has been director of the Kunsthalle Basel. In 2008, he was also co-curator of the 5th Berlin Biennial. On November 22, 2013, was announced in a press conference as director of Documenta 14.
