Adán Cárdenas

Adán Cárdenas del Castillo ( born February 22, 1836 in Rivas, Nicaragua, † July 12, 1916 in Managua, Nicaragua ) was a Nicaraguan politician of the Conservative Party from 1883 to 1887 and President of the country.

Cárdenas was the first Nicaraguans, who was trained in Italy to the doctor. During his reign, he laid special emphasis on the promotion of education, particularly educational objectives. This included the construction of schools in different parts of the country. He also founded the Escuela de Artes y Oficios.

He finished the construction of the railway line Ferrocarril del Pacífico. On October 6, 1885 reversed the first locomotives between Managua and Granada.

In 1886 he rose to the rank of Masaya department.
