Adcock River

The Adcock River is a river in the north of the Australian state of Western Australia. It is located in the Kimberley region.

Geography

The river rises in Qodesh in the Philips range and then flows southeast to the King Leopold Ranges along by the settlements Mount House and Kimberley, past Mount Clifton and at Mount Hamilton. Below Fitzroy Bluff and above the Dimond Gorge opens the Adcock River in the Fitzroy River.

History

As the first Europeans discovered Frank Hann in 1898 the river and named it after the brothers Charles and William Adcock from Derby. Hann said: "The men Adcock Bros from Derby were very kind to me and were extremely generous in the important issue of supply of food rations. "

Fish stock

Fish species, such as tiger fish ( Teraponidae ), gobies ( Gobiidae ) and Schläfergrundeln ( Eleotridae ) can be found in the river system.
