Address (geography)

The mailing address ( in Switzerland mail address ) identifies the destination address in the form to which an item of mail is to be delivered. This can be either a mailbox or a physical address with a mailbox.

A postal address must as a minimum the name of the recipient, ( for example, companies, associations and the like) can be a person or a group of people and give a precise local designation. The local name must be entered in each case, the location, and the corresponding postal code included. If necessary, they must be expanded to include a street address with house number or a post office box number.

With the introduction of automatic letter sorting machines, the demands on the accuracy of the mailing address are increased; they were taken to Germany in 5008 with the DIN. This standard prescribes the affixing of the address in a particular zone of the envelope and addressing in typescript. Compliance with this standard is one of the requirements to receive a discount on the postage for large customers of Deutsche Post AG.
