Adem Demaçi

Adem Demaçi ( born February 26, 1936 in Pristina ) is an Kosovar independence activist and writer.

He fought for the equality of Kosovo to the other republics of Yugoslavia. For his political activity he was arrested by Yugoslav security forces and was for 28 years a political prisoner: 1958-1961, 1964-1974 and 1975-1990. He is considered by some a matter as " Nelson Mandela Kosovo ". Demaçi headed after his release between 1990 and 1995 the Human Rights Association in Pristina. He was spokesman for the KLA, until he resigned in 1999. For his work, he was honored in 1991 with the Sakharov Peace Prize. He authored several works during his life, some of which have been translated into several languages ​​(eg, the snakes of the blood, Albanian Gjarprinjtë e gjakut ).
