Adhemar Schwitzguébel

Adhemar Schwitzguébel (* 1844 in Sonvilier; † July 23, 1895 in Biel) was a Swiss anarchist and theorist of collectivist anarchism. He was co-founder of the Jura Federation and a member of the First International.

Life

Adhemar Schwitzguébel was born in the Swiss Jura. His father was an engraver and took part in the political struggles of 1848. Adhemar Schwitzguébel also learned the father's occupation and founded in March 1866, a section of the First International in Sonvilier. He learned Mikhail Bakunin and later became a member of the Alliance organization. After the failure of the Paris Commune, he went to Paris for some Communards escape with fake passports allow. Under the impact of the conflict between Marx and Bakunin he formed with James Guillaume and other anti- authoritarian the Jura Federation and wrote for the newspaper Bulletin de la Fédération Jurassic. After the exclusion of Bakunin and Guillaume from the International Federation of the Jura became the center of the anarchist movement and St. Imier in the Swiss Jura to the venue of the first anti-authoritarians International. After the dissolution of the Jura Federation, he moved to Biel and died there at the age of 51 years from stomach cancer.
