Adobe After Effects

Adobe After Effects is a compositing and animation software manufacturer Adobe Systems. With it, film footage with computer- generated images and effects, you can put together. The program is very inspired in its surface and the features of Adobe Photoshop, however, provides a timeline and the ability to animate almost any parameter with keyframes ( keyframes ).

Scope

After Effects can be, for example, motion design clips ( intros for TV shows, Typo animations, bumpers, etc. ) or create visual effects and / or complete for film and television. In particular, the combination with 3D programs such as 3D Studio Max, Maya or Cinema 4D allows After Effects rework footage and combine it with other ( real or computer generated ) images. Since version 9, you also have the ability to import 3D objects from Photoshop and those to edit directly in After Effects.

Main tasks of the program are moving (animate ) clips in a two - or three-dimensional space and the manipulation of video through masks or effects. The viewer can fly with the help of a virtual camera by a three-dimensional space and programming for artificial light sources. The aim of the program is the production of short, effect -heavy videos, such as trailers or Vorspännen for television or commercials.

Versions

Up to version 7 After Effects was delivered in two different versions (Standard and Professional) and is adjacent to Premiere Pro, Audition and EncoreDVD one of the main components of the new Adobe Creative Suite Production Studio. Since version 7, however, it has waived this two - pad, so you can only purchase the Professional version today. The Professional version offered compared to the standard version in addition for compositing important features such as keying plugin Keylight, enhanced matte tools, import of RPF-/RLA-Daten from 3D programs, Grain -Removal, a tracker / image stabilizer, as well as the plugin 3D Invigorator for creating 3D text and objects, which is no longer included since version 7.

By 2003, the program cost in the Professional version of up to 3,000 euros, now Adobe has somewhat reduced the prices. For students, there is a discount Education license for the professional version, which after graduation can continue to be used and is also eligible for free upgrades.

Areas of application

Target group of the program are full-time video editors and visual effects artists. Thanks to the now very extensive built-in 16 - and 32 -bit color support ( per channel) to After Effects is also suitable for post-processing of scanned celluloid recordings (eg the Kodak Cineon format) back on after machining with high contrast " real" film to be fully exposed. Alternatives to After Effects are, inter alia, Discreet / Autodesk Combustion, Digital Fusion, Apple Shake / Motion, Nuke, and the "big" compositing systems from Avid and discreet, but unlike After Effects mostly to a " Node" set - based workflow with schematic views instead timelines / Compositions. The current version is After Effects CS6. This version requires a 64- bit operating system.
