Adolf Eduard Herstein

Adolf Edward Herstein ( Adolf Eduard Herstein, * 1869 in Warsaw, † 1932 in Berlin) was a Polish painter and engraver. He lived and worked in France, Germany and Poland.

Despite her engagement with Walter Luebke who was then living in Munich Herstein an affair with the young Countess Franziska zu Reventlow began in November 1893, the art critic he was. As Reventlow in the spring of 1894 realized that she was pregnant, Herstein wanted to take no father duties and therefore advised her to marry Walter Luebke. In Berlin, Herstein was a member of the Secession Art movement. 1904 founded Herstein a private painting school in Warsaw, which existed until 1911. Roman Kramsztyk was one of his students here.

His oil paintings were done in impasto technique and were stylistically close to Impressionism. The Museum of Modern Art has one of his works.
