Adolf Schwarz

Adolf Schwarz ( born October 21, 1836 in Galszecs, Hungary, † October 25, 1910 in Vienna ) was an Austria - Hungarian chess master.

Black was a merchant and lived from 1872 in Vienna and was considered one of the strongest chess players in Austria.

His greatest successes were the second place in Frankfurt am Main 1878 ( behind Paulsen ), third place in chess congress in Leipzig in 1879, the shared first place in Wiesbaden 1880 ( with Blackburne and English) as well as the first place in Graz 1880.

He also denied several duels. He won in 1878 against Minckwitz ( 3, -2, = 4), 1880 and 1897 against Winawer 3-1 against Albin 2:1 ( 2, -1, = 0). In 1879, he lost to Paulsen with 2:5.

His best historical Elo rating was 2657th This he achieved in May 1882.
