Adolf Thiel

Adolf K. Thiel (* February 12, 1915, † June 2, 2001 in Los Angeles ) was an Austrian-American engineer who specialized in the Second World War rocket and later worked for the United States Army.

Life

Thiel was an associate professor of mechanical engineering at the Technical University of Darmstadt, before he was brought to Wernher von Braun at the Army Research Center Peenemünde, where Thiel was involved in the development of the V- 2 rocket. After the end of World War II he was brought to the United States ( Operation Paperclip ), where he pursued its military research at Fort Bliss, Texas. He has been involved in the designs of the Redstone missile, the Thor rocket and other short-and medium - ballistic systems.

Thiel 1955 left the U.S. Army and moved to the U.S. technology group TRW ( Thompson Ramo Wooldridge ). There he was program manager for ballistic missiles, the precursors of later space probes and headed up into the 1970s, the TRW Space programs.

Thiel was retired in 1980 and then worked as a management consultant. He last lived in Rancho Palos Verdes.
