Adolfo J. de Bold

Adolfo J. de Bold OC ( born 14 September 1942 in Paraná, Argentina ) is an Argentine- Canadian pathologist and physiologist.

De Bold studied medicine at the Universidad Nacional de Córdoba in Argentina, where he taught physics, pathology and histology. His specialty training ( residency, Chief Residency ), he graduated at the Hospital Nacional de Clinicas in Córdoba. From 1974 he was a scientist at Queen's University ( and at the Hotel Dieu Hospital) in Canada, where, in 1971 his master's degree made ​​and received his doctorate in 1973 in pathology. In 1982 he became associate professor in 1985 and professor at Queen 's University. In 1986 he became professor of pathology and physiology at the University of Ottawa. He serves on the Board of Directors of the University of Ottawa Heart Institute where he is director of the endocrinology laboratory.

1981 succeeded de Bold with some others ( such as the kidney specialist Harald Sonnenberg ) the discovery of distributed from the heart hormone Atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP, ANF), with which the blood pressure is regulated. He had also patented the hormone. In 1986, he received the Gairdner Foundation International Award and the Science Achievement Award from the American Society for Hypertension and the Research Achievement Award of the Canadian Cardiovascular Society. In 1988 he received the Medal of Excellence in Research of the Royal Society of Canada, 1994 Ciba Award from the American Heart Association and he received the Research Achievement Award of the International Society of Hypertension. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada.
