Adoniram Judson

Adoniram Judson ( born August 9, 1788 in Malden, Massachusetts, † April 12, 1850 at sea) was an American missionary.

Life

Adoniram Judson was born in 1788 the son of a Congregationalist pastor. Judson studied at Brown University and Andover Theological Seminary. In 1810 he completed his studies and was appointed as one of the first missionaries for missionary service in South Asia from the American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions. On the voyage to India 1812, Judson and his wife turned to the Baptist and settled after their arrival of William Carey baptized. Under pressure from the East India Company out they had to leave India and move to Burma. There, the couple created a burmesisches dictionary and translated the Bible into Burmese until 1834.
