Adrian Sherwood

Adrian Maxwell Sherwood (born 1958 in London ) is a British music producer, musician and label owner who has influenced the development of dub instrumental.

Life

His career began with the collaboration with musicians such as Emperor Rosko, Judge Dread, Johnny Walker and Steve Barnard. At seventeen he was co-founder of the label Carib Gems. Here he published his first discs of Prince Far I, from whom he also learned a lot musically.

Sherwood founded several labels, including Hitrun Records ( 1978), on which the first Roots Radics dub set Dub to Africa and the first " chapter" came out of Crytuff Dub Encounter by Prince Far I, mixed and co-produced by Sherwood latter. Less well known are Green Tea Records and Soundboy Records. At this time he also produced The Slits.

His best-known label is On- U Sound, however Records ( 1980). Especially the New Age Steppers, Bim Sherman, African Head Charge and Dub Syndicate are important groups that published on this label, many of which were also produced by Sherwood. Also available with other sizes of Dub and Reggae Business as Mad Professor, he worked together.

In New York, Adrian Sherwood got together with guitarist Skip McDonald, bassist Doug Wimbish and drummer Keith LeBlanc, who were the house band of the rap label Sugar Hill Records. Together they produced under various names several pieces that had a major influence on the character of ON-U. Much of it went under the Tackhead project their fourth member, he has been a Mixologist.

A wider public was Adrian Sherwood mid-1980s known when he remixed renowned artists such as Depeche Mode, Einstürzende Neubauten, Simply Red, Sinead O'Connor and Ministry and produced. Later, groups such as Coldcut, Skinny Puppy and Nine Inch Nails were added.

Adrian Sherwood also produced in the 90's still reggae, among other things, Bim Sherman, Junior Delgado and the Italian Dub Band Almamegretta.

First published in 2003, Sherwood purely a solo album under his real name with the title Never Trust A Hippy.
