Adriana Budevska

Adriana Budewska (also Adriana Budevska, Bulgarian Адриана Будевска; born December 13, 1878 in Dobrich, † December 9, 1955 in Sofia) was a Bulgarian actress and one of the founders of the modern Bulgarian theater.

Life

Budewska was born in the Black Sea port city of Dobrich and finished her high school in Varna. In 1895 she was selected by the Bulgarian Ministry of Culture as a fellow at the Russian Maly Theatre in Moscow. Among her instructors there was Aleksandar Petrovich Lenski.

After their four -year training Budewska 1899 returned to Bulgaria and played in the theater "Salsa Smjach i " ( Tear and Laughter) in Sofia. She made her debut there with the role of Vasilisa Melentiewa from the eponymous play by the Russian playwright Alexander Nikolayevich Ostrovsky. Between 1906 and 1926 Budewska played in the National Theatre " Ivan Vazov ". There she met the actor Christo Ganchev and married him.

In 1926 she was released and emigrated in 1937 to her son in South America and returned only in 1948 with the end of the tsarist regime and the proliferation of the People's Republic of Bulgaria. Beginning of 1949 was celebrated her 70th birthday over the country.

Andriana Budewska died on 9 December 1955 in the Bulgarian capital Sofia. Today, the Drama Theatre in Burgas bears her name.
