Adrift in Manhattan is an American film drama directed by Alfredo De Villa from the year 2007.

Action

The teenager Simon Colon lives with his overbearing mother. He photographed people in their leisure time through a telephoto lens. One day he photographed Rose Phipps.

The child of an optician Rose Phipps dies. The woman pulls back then, they can no longer communicate with her husband Mark, from which it separates. Phipps learns the blind painter Tommaso Pensara know and notes that she has become lonely.

Reviews

Dennis Harvey wrote in the journal Variety January 26, 2007, the film was a " fine piece " with good illustrations and an interesting situation. The drama, however, would leave no lasting impression.

Kirk Honeycutt wrote in the magazine The Hollywood Reporter January 29, 2007, the film is like a good short story - he do not waste time, what it enables maximum effect. The film show the loneliness of Simon Colon, Rose Phipps and Tommaso Pensara. He had a good chance of smaller film festivals but despite the presence of Heather Graham he own only limited use for the feature.

Awards

The film took at the Sundance Film Festival in 2007 as a competition entry in part; Alfredo De Villa was nominated for the Grand Jury Prize. De Villa won the 2007 American Spectrum Prize of the Indianapolis International Film Festival. The film won the 2007 Ensemble Award from the Palm Beach International Film Festival.

Background

The film was shot in New York City. It had its world premiere on 10 January 2007 at the Sundance Film Festival. In April 2007, he was shown at the Newport Beach Film Festival and at the Indianapolis International Film Festival.
