Advanced Distributed Learning

The Advanced Distributed Learning Initiative ( ADL) is an organization that is leading in the field of standardization of e -learning technologies. ADL published the standard collection SCORM, which could prove to be important reference points of the numerous standardization efforts. ADL was founded in 1997 by the U.S. Department of Defense and is under the auspices of the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Personnel and Readiness.

There is a close collaboration with creators of standards for e -learning technologies, including IEEE, IMS Global Learning Consortium and the Ariadne Foundation.
