Advection

Advection (from Latin advehi = zoom move ) generally refers to the approach run of things.

Advection in meteorology

In meteorology, the term advection is used in connection with the pre- guiding of air masses, that is, with the horizontal movement of the air. One speaks of a temperature advection, a special case of horizontal convection. It only is a temperature advection, when the wind having a vector component in the direction of the atmospheric temperature. If the wind is perpendicular to it, then the advection zero.

In principle, the properties of a fluid can be transported by advection ( with the large-scale flow ). The transport is carried out continuously. In contrast, convective transport takes place more discrete, so to speak, in packets, because the surface extends approximately horizontally and so the warmed on the ground, air is slight under the cold, heavy air. With convection, therefore, find warm air bubbles in close proximity to colder ambient air. In contrast, it is equally warmer at advection example of warm air throughout the area under consideration.

Advection in hydrology

In hydrology is referred to as the transport of an advection in the water dissolved or suspended material with the flow of water, that is with the medium speed and direction.
