Adventure Galley

P1

  • 34 guns

The Adventure Galley was the ship of the pirate William Kidd fight.

She ran in December 1695 in the Deptforder shipyard on the Thames from the stack and was a mixture of sailing and rowing boat. A total of 2,600 m² sail could be hoisted, with which a speed of 14 knots was possible. On each side of the 124 -foot-long fuselage there were 23 belts that lent the ship at full manning a speed of 3 knots. The frames were set very close together, so the Adventure Galley was quite difficult for a ship of her class (287 t). The crew consisted of 150 men, the armament of 34 cannons.

The Adventure Galley was taken after three years of plunder without overhaul badly, stuck on 29 January 1699 by her crew on fire and sank in the natural harbor of Sainte Marie, an island located off the east coast of Madagascar. The remains of the ship were discovered in February 2000.
