The AdvoCare 500 is a race in the NASCAR Sprint Cup, which will be held at the Atlanta Motor Speedway in Hampton, Georgia. Between 1987 and 2001 the race was the last of each season and usually the event in which the championship was decided.

The race of the 1992 season was the last race of Richard Petty and the debut of Jeff Gordon. With six drivers who had chances at the championship, this issue is considered by many fans as one of the best NASCAR races. Alan Kulwicki, who finished second in this race, beating Bill Elliott, the winner of the race, by just ten points in the race for the championship.

For 2001, the event was planned as a season finale, but it was only the penultimate race of the season. The New Hampshire 300 was postponed to Friday because of the terrorist attacks of September 11, the original deadline 16th September after Thanksgiving. In the 2002 season, the race in late October was postponed. As of 2003, it was the first with a qualifying at night, which since then is for both races at the Atlanta Motor Speedway standard.
