Origin of the name " Adiyaman "

There are at least two stories about the origin of the Turkish name of the city Adiyaman, which gives the province its name, as well as the Kurdish names.

  • Adiyaman to have around it had fertile valleys. Hence the name Vadi i Leman, meaning " Beautiful Valley " is coming. From this name, the modern name came into being.
  • In a town called Farrin or Perrhe, there should have been a man who worshiped idols. This man had seven sons, the one day when the father was not there, in the name of the one God destroyed the idols. When his father found out, he killed all of his sons. Then, a monastery was built in honor of sons in Farrin. Since then the city Yedi Yaman what the " Seven Brave " is called. This then was Adiyaman.
  • In the middle of the city stands a castle, whose name means Hisn -ı Mansur on German " Mansur castle ". In Mansur it could be to the Abbasid caliph al- Mansur, or a commander of the Umayyad Arab who invaded here in the 7th century. The name Hisn -ı Mansur was pronounced by the people Hüsnü Mansur and is popularly still the name of this province. The Kurdish Semsur is derived from it.

1926, the province name of Hisn -ı Mansur or Hüsnü Mansur was changed in Adiyaman.
