Aegukga
Aegukga is the national anthem of South Korea. The title literally means "The Song of Love for the Country ," or " The Patriotic Song ".
It is believed that the lyrics were written at the end of the 19th century, either by the politicians Yun Chi -ho or the independence activist An Chang -ho. Originally Aegukga was sung to the tune of Auld Lang Syne Scottish folk. During the Japanese occupation between 1910 and 1945, the song was banned. Koreans living abroad, it continued to sing to express their desire for independence. In 1937, Ahn Eak -tae wrote, an internationally known Korean musicians, a new melody for Aegukga. His work was officially adopted by the Provisional Government in Exile of the Republic of Korea and used as an unofficial anthem.
