AEL 1964 FC

AE Larisa (Greek Αθλητική Ενωση Λάρισας / Athlitiki Enosi Larisa ), was founded in 1964 from a union of four based in Larisa Greek football clubs. In addition to the football section of the club also offers sports such as basketball (see AE Larisa (basketball ) ), boxing, fencing, cycling or sport shooting at.

History

AEL is the only Greek football club from the periphery who ever won the Greek title. In 1972, the team first played in the 1st Hellenic Football League, is temporarily back on and descended, until finally in 1984-85, first won the Cup victory and the championship in 1987-88. Some of the former players were successful: Giannis Galitsios, Georgios Mitsimponas, Michalis Ziogas, Ioannis Alexoulis and Vassilios Karapialis. Heraldic animal is the horse, which was in ancient times a symbol of the city of Larissa, due to the important horse breeding Greece.

The blackest chapter in the club history was written in the 2002-2003 season in which the team was almost relegated to the fourth division.

The Alcazar Stadium has always been a venue for the " Dark Red " ( " Vissini "). Has a capacity of 13,050 seats, in AELS best times we had record attendance figures of more than 18,000. Since November 2010, the team has moved into the new AEL FC Arena. The new football stadium holds 16,000 spectators and is located in the district of Neapolis.

Under the new president Piladakis the club experienced its rebirth. The financially strong young entrepreneurs led the team from the irrelevance back into the premier league and made the fans for new euphoria. 2007, it even made it to the Cup final, where they beat Panathinaikos 2-1 and the trophy was able to secure for the second time in club history.

Besides strengthening the team president Piladakis is driving a new stadium. Thus, a new arena will be built in the coming years in Larisa, which is to be offer 22,000 spectators and the highest standards.

In the 2010/11 season Larisa rose from the second division.
