Ælfric Bata

Ælfric Bata, also romanized Eluricus Bate, was a Benedictine monk in the early 11th century.

Ælfric Bata was a student of well-known Ælfric Grammaticus. Further biographical details are, as well as the significance of his nickname of Bata (possibly from Old English: BAT = " boot ", batt = hitting the " stick " or Batian = " get better, heal " ) is unknown. He was the author of two colloquia in Latin as well as a revision of the Colloquies of Ælfric Grammaticus. The Colloquia Colloquia and difficiliora were reading books for the Latin class and describe in dialogue form life in the convent school and everyday life of the " common man " of his time. Ælfric Bata probably lived in the Abbey of Winchester or Canterbury. He died 1010-1020.
