Aeolis

Aeolian (Greek Αἰολίς Aeolis, rarely Αἰολία Aiolia, Latin form Aeolia ) is an ancient, populated by the Äoliern landscape on the northwest coast of Asia Minor. Aeolian ranged from the entrance of the Hellespont (now Dardanelles ) in the north to the Hermus ( Gediz ) in the south. Aeolian bordered to the north by Mysia, in the south of Ionia and to the east by Lydia.

In the 8th century BC were the Aeolian cities a twelve cities Federation ( Dodekapolis ): Kyme, Larisa, Neonteichos, Temnos, Cilla, Notion, Aegiroessa, Pitane, Aegae, Myrina, Gryneion and Smyrna.

699 BC Smyrna joined the Ionian Confederation. The remaining cities were conquered by Croesus, the last king of Lydia, who reigned from 541 BC to about 556 BC. The country has since Cyrus II later ruled by the Persians, the Macedonians, the Seleucids and the Attalids.
