Aepisaurus

  • Europe ( Gres Vert, department Vaucluse, France)
  • Aepisaurus elephantinus

Aepisaurus is the generic name of a quadrupedal Titanosauridae, who lived in the middle of the Cretaceous period. The name " Aepisaurus " means " high lizard".

Like all sauropods Aepisaurus feeds on plants ( herbivores ). It is estimated that he was approximately 10 feet high and 15 feet long; its weight would have been about 10 tons. It is not known whether Aepisaurus was similar armored as other Titanosauriden.

As holotype was A. elephantinus 1852 by Paul Gervais described. The only discovery of this animal was a humerus (humerus ), which was discovered in Gres Vert in the French department of Vaucluse. Due to this sparse fossil document type is guided by some as a noun dubium, so it's debatable whether that a separate genus and species is entitled or the Fund must not be assigned to another, already known Titanosauriden.
