Aeterna Dei sapientia

The encyclical Aeterna Dei sapientia was on 11 November 1961 by Pope John XXIII. published. It is subtitled: " On the occasion of the 1500 anniversary of the death of the Holy Pope Leo I: ., The Holy See of Peter as the center of Christian unity."

In the greeting of this encyclical praises and John XXIII. the St. Leo I ( † November 10 461 ), which bears the epithet "the Great " as a worthy and excellent man of the Catholic Church.

In the first chapter, the Pope once again the Pope Leo I, pastors and describes his work as a church teacher of the universal Church. He refers to this saint as a faithful servant to the Apostolic See and calls him a wise pastors of the Church, many of whose great knowledge can learn.

The second chapter presents John XXIII. a combination of Leo I to the upcoming Second Vatican Council ago and declared to be that in the mind and spirit of the great Pope preserves the unity of the Church and restored. The Bishop of Rome is the visible unity and refers to the successor of St. Peter, is John XXIII. clear out. He referred to Rome as the spiritual center for Christian unity and calls his brethren and all the faithful to return home and unity in the faith.

In the final Exhortation he encourages the unity of the Church in truth and justice. But he also warns against exaggerated activism, but must be passed with patience and love to the work of unity approach.
