FC St. Gallen 2012/13: FC Wil

Took place on 14 September 2005, after nearly ten years of planning, ground was broken for the AFG Arena with a capacity of 19'568 spectators as well as for the shopping arena. For international matches, the standing room can be converted into seats, so a seating capacity of 17'317 is available. The cost of the stadium and the attached shopping center amounted to approximately CHF 340 million ( € 220 million). For flanking traffic measures additional 70 million ( € 45 million) had to be expended.

On 2 March 2006 it was announced that the stadium will be called AFG Arena, named after the Arbonia -Forster -Holding, headquartered in Arbon. It is the first Swiss stadium, which is named after a commercial company. Named previously under the working title Stadium West Stadium has replaced the extended duration as temporary Espenmoos from 2008.

On 24 August 2007 it was decided that in the AFG Arena natural turf is laid. Both financial as well as sporting reasons had caused the organizers to take this step.

The first game in the new AFG Arena was held on 30 May 2008. Switzerland played in the last preparation game for the Euro 08 against Liechtenstein and won in front of around 18,000 spectators 3-0. The official opening ceremony took place on 5 July 2008, when the FC St. Gallen met a legend selection. The first competitive match at the new stadium of FC St. Gallen played against Concordia Basel, Philipp Muntwiler scoring the first competitive game - goal in the AFG Arena.

The charge in the stadium operation AG announced on 9 February 2009 that the fan sector increased at the Forster stands and the stadium will thus have 4,400 standing places in the future.

In the 2012/2013 season of FC Wil wore out its home games at AFG Arena, home stadium since its Bergholz was demolished and rebuilt.
