Afipsky

Afipski (Russian Афипский ) is an urban-type settlement with 18.969 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ) in southern Russia in the Krasnodar region ( Rajon Severskaya (Russian Северский район ) ) on the river Afips. It lies about 15 km from Krasnodar, and around 120 km from the Black Sea.

History

The settlement was founded in 1865 as a Cossack village Georgije - Afipskaja ( Георгие - Афипская ) and was originally used as a military base. With the laying of a railway line close to Afipski end of the 19th century, the city gained a meaning for the trade. The most important operation in place is currently a petroleum refinery.
