Afmadow (also Afmadoow, Afmadu Afmaadu or written ) is a town in southern Somalia in the region Jubbada Hoose. It is the capital of the district of the same name.

Afmadow has about 12,000 inhabitants. By November 2007, estimated that as many IDPs from Mogadishu came to town.

Before the arrival of the Somali in the 19th century was a center of Afmadow Warday - Oromo (see Tana Orma ). However, a smallpox epidemic around the year 1865 weakened the Warday, so Somalis were able to occupy the field and oust the Warday from the clan of the Darod.

2006 Afmadow Islamic Courts was under the control of the Union. In the further course of the Civil War gained Hisbul Islam, one that emerged from the Union splinter group, the control of the city. On 21 November 2009, she moved largely unresisting back from the advancing al -Shabaab. Then, thousands of residents fled for fear of fighting. In May 2012, Afmadow was freed by Kenyan troops.
