The magazine published three times a year is part of the GIGA Journal Family GIGA German Institute of Global and Area Studies (Hamburg). The GIGA Journal Family was funded by the German Research Foundation ( DFG) and the Open Access pilot project. At the beginning of 2009, several established social science journals, including Africa Spectrum, transferred to open access journals and have since become world accessible online. The magazines will also continue as print versions.

Concept

Africa Spectrum is aimed at professionals and other interested parties that deal in science and politics, economy, administration and media with Africa.

All scientific articles are subjected prior to its publication a double- anonymous review process ( peer review ) to ensure the quality of the contributions.

Africa Spectrum is evaluated and indexed among others, the Social Science Citation Index ( ISI / SSCI ), the Public Affairs Information Service ( PAIS ) and the International Bibliography of the Social Sciences ( IBSS ). The magazine also belongs to the inventory of many public and university libraries in Germany and other countries.
