African pygmy squirrel

The African pygmy squirrel ( Myosciurus pumilio ) is a Arboreal Squirrel of the rain forests of Central Africa. It is the smallest of all squirrel species; in its minuteness it looks more like a mouse than a croissant. The body length is 7 cm, added 6 inch cock. The weight is about 16 g The coat colors are upper side greenish brown and whitish. Widespread is this squirrel in the countries of Cameroon, Gabon, Republic of Congo and Equatorial Guinea.

Little is known about the habits of these squirrels, since one has only rarely observed. It lives evident in the near-surface areas of the trees, so does not rise into the top region. Here it seeks refuge in tree hollows. Dwarf squirrels are diurnal loner. The number of boys in the litter was in the few cases observed, always two.

Many a time have been seen dwarf squirrel in how they peeled the bark from the trunks to eat these. Also, an examination of the stomach contents showed that bark makes up a disproportionate share of the food. In addition, tree fungi and termites were found.

The IUCN classified the species since 2008 as a not compromised. But you should be threatened by the rapid destruction of the latent rainforests.
