Afrikahaus (Hamburg)

The Africa House is an office building in Hamburg (Hamburg -Altstadt ), Large Reichenstraße 27 Built in 1899 by the Hamburg architect Martin Haller for the company C. Woermann and is since 1972 under monument protection.

Construction and building owner

The " Africa House " was built in 1899 on behalf of Adolph Woermann and Eduard Woermann as office building for the 1837 founded by Carl Woermann trading company C. Woermann, owner of the Woermann Line and the German East Africa Line. The architect Martin Haller designed the facade so that it highlights the overseas trade relations; the color scheme is based on the colors of the shipping company.

The " Africa House " is centrally located in downtown Hamburg, approximately in the middle between the Mönckebergstraße shopping street, the town hall and warehouse district.

The Africa House as a landmark
