Agassiz peak

The Agassiz Peak is the second highest mountain in the U.S. state of Arizona. It has a height of 3766 m and is located in the San Francisco Peaks in the Coconino National Forest, north of Flagstaff.

About two kilometers north rises with the Humphreys Peak is the highest peak in Arizona. The latter is often confused with the Agassiz Peak, as it seen from Flagstaff obstruct the view of the higher Humphreys Peak.

The Agassiz Peak can be climbed without technical difficulties mountain. The starting point of a summit tour is the Ski Bowl of Flagstaff. In 2800m altitude cars there may be parked in several large parking lots. Mount Agassiz can be climbed along with the Humphreys Peak in one day. For the entire tour must be deposited a total of 12km. On the saddle between Agassiz Peak and Humphreys Peak is the turnoff to Agassiz Peak.

Since 1985 the riser on the Agassiz Peak is locked! The detrital and thus unstable subsoil allegedly threatened a rare plant species ( Senecio franciscanus ). In winter, when the peak is covered with snow, Mount Agassiz, however, must be climbed.
