Agatanushi

Agatanushi (Japanese県 主) described the conductor ( nushi ) of a historic administrative unit ( agata ) in ancient Japan, as well as a hereditary title registry ( kabane ).

The exact nature of agata is unclear: either there were estates directly subordinate to the imperial court, subordinate administrative units of a province or precursor of the historical districts ( kori ).
