Ageladas

Ageladas ( Άγελάδας, " Ageladas of Argos ", also called " Hageladas " ) was a Greek sculptor of the 5th century BC, * in Argos and about 475-430 BC worked in the Peloponnese and in the whole of Greece.

Ageladas is the main champion of the Peloponnesian school of sculpture. We know that he has created for Aigion, Delphi and the sanctuary of Zeus on the Ithome works. Further works are known, the Hercules and a muse represented, but also honorary statues for the winners in sports competitions as well as groups of riders and four sidecars. He is regarded as a teacher of Polykleitos, Phidias and Myron.

Despite his great fame apparently none of his works has been preserved as a Roman marble copy.
