Charts and reception

Agents of Fortune was the first Blue Öyster Cult - album, which was also placed in the U.S. in the top 30. In the United Kingdom succeeded with space 26, the first chart position ever. The released single ( Do not Fear ) The Reaper in the U.S. rose to 12th place in the UK at # 16 In Canada, the album reached number 28 on the charts while the single ( Do not Fear ) The Reaper up to place 7 rose. In Sweden, the album peaked at number ten and spent four weeks in the charts.

Ken Tucker of Rolling Stone called the album managed to be surprising, since one does not expect that Blue Öyster Cult may sound like: loud, crazy and melodic, but at the same time calm, confident and rock. As a central and positive impact he identified the participation of Patti Smith at the songs Debbie Denise and The Revenge of Vera Gemini. Thom Jurek of Allmusic awarded for Agents of Fortune 4.5 out of 5 stars. It is a solid, consistent album, but it would seem frightening to fans of the previous sounds.
