Ã…gesta Nuclear Plant

F1

Decommissioned Reactors ( gross ):

The nuclear power plant Ågesta (Swedish Ågestaverket ) was the first Swedish nuclear power plant that has been used for commercial electricity and heat production. The construction was begun in 1957 and completed the work in 1962. The power plant was blown up into a mountain at Ågesta in Huddinge and 1964-1974 in operation. It produced mainly district heating to the Stockholm district Farsta, but also a small proportion of electrical energy.

Responsible for the construction were ASEA, Stockholms Elverk and Statens Vattenfallsverk. Prior to completion of the construction work has already been a much larger reactor in Marviken, just outside Norrköping, built. This construction project was not completed and the power plant at Marviken oil is burned today.

The performance of the reactor in Ågesta was much smaller than the later, Swedish reactor types with only 10 MW. The reactor was part of the so-called Swedish line ( the svenska linjen ), which had an international independence through use of local, non-fortified uranium fuel with heavy water as a moderator to the destination.
