Agnes of Waiblingen (* end of 1072, † September 24, 1143 in Klosterneuburg ) from the family of the Salian was Duchess of Swabia and Margravine of Austria.

The age of seven she was betrothed I. Duke Friedrich on 24 March 1079 which later claim this noble family should be justified to the German crown.

The 1086 first completed couple had eleven children:

Marriage to Leopold III.

After the death of Frederick in 1105, she married in 1106 the later canonized Babenberg Leopold III. of Austria, who had earned this connection through his support of her brother Henry V against his father, and to whom she is said to have born in just twelve years, eighteen children - possibly so some of this compound awarded children really do come first marriage.

This second marriage produced the following children:

  • Henry II Jasomirgott (* 1107, † 1177 )
  • Leopold IV (* 1108, † 1141 )
  • Bertha († 1150 ) ∞ Count Heinrich III. of Regensburg

  • Elisabeth ( † 1143 ) ∞ Hermann II of Winzenburg
  • Gertrud († 1151 ) ∞ King Vladislav II of Bohemia
  • Judith ∞ Margrave William of Montferrat

The death of more than half of their children before their own end in betagtem age of almost 71 years, they should have mastered by their unwavering belief in the afterlife.

The close relationship between Staufen and Babenbergers was founded by Agnes. Buried it is like her second husband Leopold III. in the Augustinian Monastery in Klosterneuburg, its creation should go back to the veil legend of Agnes and Leopold.

In 1894 in Vienna Dobling ( 19th district ) was named the Agnesgasse after her.
