Agsu District

Ağsu (also Aqsu ) is a rayon in Azerbaijan. Capital is the city Ağsu. The name means " White Water ".

Geography

The rayon has an area of 1,020 km ². The landscape in the north belongs to the southern edge of the Great Caucasus, there are the mountains Niaylgad, gingar and Lenkebiz and Agsu Pass. In the south, the steppe of Shirvan connects. Major rivers of the district are the Ağsu and Ayramchay.

Population

The rayon had 2009 70.000 inhabitants.

Economy

The region is dominated by agriculture. It is cotton, grain and wine grown and bred cattle. There is a food processing industry, as dairies and wineries, as well as snake farms. Moreover, in the region silk is processed because the Silk Road leads through the rayon.

Attractions
