Agusta

Agusta is the short name for the 1907 as Societa Costruzioni Aeronautiche Giovanni Agusta in Cascina Costa, founded (VA) in Italy by airplane pioneer Giovanni Agusta company. It is the oldest Italian aircraft factory.

History

Already from 1908 Agusta built aircraft, in addition to military aircraft also sports and touring aircraft. Giovanni's sons, Domenico, Vincenzo, Mario and Corrado, the company expanded further and began the manufacture of motorcycles. After the Second World War and the control of the Allies only the construction of road vehicles was initially allowed. A son of the company founder, Domenico Agusta, also 1945, the motorcycle manufacturer MV Agusta.

Since 1952, Agusta produced under license from the U.S. company Bell Helicopter. As a result Agusta works closely with the helicopter division of Boeing and Sikorsky. Two years later Agusta developed the first Italian helicopter.

In 1983, the Italian Agusta aircraft SIAI - Marchetti competitors. In 1994, the company was taken over from the possession of the state holding company EFIM of Finmeccanica, the aircraft activities were moved to other subsidiaries of Finmeccanica universe and Agusta was a pure helicopter manufacturer.

AgustaWestland

In July 2000, merged with the British Agusta Westland Helicopters AgustaWestland to. On 26 May 2004 Finmeccanica eventually took over the former joint venture to 100 percent. AgustaWestland is currently looking for Eurocopter the world's second largest manufacturer of civil helicopters. The company reported 2005 success when she landed the contract for the AgustaWestland EH101 helicopter Marine One as a new service of the President of the United States, however, was not built.
