Agustin Roman

Agustín Alejo Román Rodríguez ( born May 5, 1928 in San Antonio de los Baños, Cuba, † April 11, 2012 in Miami, Florida) was auxiliary bishop in the Archdiocese of Miami. He was considered a " lawyer " of the Cuban exiles in Florida.

Life

Agustín Alejo Rodríguez Román studied philosophy at San Alberto Magno - Seminar in Matanzas and theology at the Seminary of Foreign Missionaries in Montreal. He received on 5 July 1959, the ordained priest for the Diocese of Matanzas. Due to the political situation in Cuba, he was expelled along with 132 other priests and shipped to Spain. Agustín Román traveled to Chile; In 1966 he went to Miami. There he founded the sanctuary of the " Merciful Virgin of El Cobre ", which became a religious center for Latin American Catholics. Román religious studies at Barry University and staff Sciences at St. Thomas University in Miami Florida.

Pope John Paul II appointed him on February 6, 1979, Titular Bishop of Sertei and auxiliary bishop in the Archdiocese of Miami. He was the first Cuban bishop of the United States.
