Maple is a community in the Upper Franconian district of Coburg.

It lies on the southern outskirts of Coburg. The name comes from the maple trees here that were formerly in the municipal area.

Geography

Maple is located in Upper Franconia-West region of the state road 303 Coburg- Schweinfurt. It has existed since the municipal reforms of the following districts: Maple, Finkenau, Hohenstein, cancer mill, sheep farm, Schorkendorf, Triebendorf, Witzmannsberg, Eicha, Wohlbach, brick hut.

History

Maple was first 1074/75 mentioned as " clearing farms in the forests of the castle Ahorny ". The development is closely connected with the history of the castle maple that Joachim von Rosenau was built after the Peasants' War in 1555 on the ruins of an older castle in Renaissance style. Coat of arms

The coat of arms shows a maple leaf and the stylized castle maple landmark of the community. Twinning

Maple has since 1975, with the market town of Irdning in Styria, Austria, and, since 1990, a twinning with the town ice rink in Thuringia.

Structures

  • Ahorn Castle in the Renaissance style with round corner towers. In the courtyard there is an octagonal stair tower with a spiral staircase, whose steps are not as usual mounted on a column but on a stone-carved spindle. Museum
