Ahuizotl (creature)

As Ahuitzotl a mythical creature in the mythology of the Aztecs is designated. The name comes from the Nahuatl and means something like " water dog ".

He looks like a little dog with black fur, small pointed ears and raccoon feet. According to legend, is said to have drawn with its tail in the water Ahuitzotl people. Its habitat to rivers and lakes to be, so we suspected that the mythological figure was inspired by an otter.

The Aztec ruler Auítzotl had his name adopted by mythical creatures Ahuitzotl which he saw as his protective figure.
