Air Astana ( Kazakh and Russian Эйр Астана ) is the national Kazakh airline based in Almaty and bases at the airports of Almaty and Astana.

History

The airline was founded in September 2001 as the successor of the insolvent Air Kazakhstan. 51 percent of the company held by the Kazakh State by the state enterprise Samruk - Kazyna and 49 percent of British aerospace and defense group BAE Systems. The first flight of Air Astana was held in the Kazakh capital Astana on 15 May 2002 from Almaty. National targets
